Define your own career, it is up to you!

And become whoever you want to be

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
― Dr. Seuss

Your success, your career is up to you. This doesn’t mean that you do it all alone. It means that you take responsibility for your life and your career.

Too many people today have difficulties to find out what they want in their career, let alone figuring out how to make progress. Do not leave your career progress up to someone else and then the wait, before you know it, it’s too late to do anything. Nobody else is going to do it for you. You must do it yourself.

Do you want to be good?

Very good?

The best in your field?

Everybody wants to be good, but not many are prepared to make the sacrifices it takes to be great. Don’t confuse being good with being liked. There is no instant solution to become the best, the only way to learn is through experience and mistakes

.

The joy of self-determination:

There is no greater pride than knowing you set your mind on something and accomplished it. Those who live with a victim mentality never get to experience the joy of accomplishment because they are always waiting for someone else to come to the rescue. Those who take responsibility get to live the joy of seeing a job well done.

Think: where will you be in three years? Five years? Ten years? Do you know? Do you have an idea? Have you ever dreamed about it or set a goal for it? Are you willing to take responsibility and recognize that it is up to you? You decide, you make it happen. It is up to you. And that is very exciting!

Find out what you can do. Do your homework. Do the research. Be resourceful. Do all you can in preparation of what’s to come. Take disciplined action. Every day (and babysteps count too!)

So, what are some good ideas on developing a plan that will work well and take you to the finish line powerfully? Here are six major points to keep in mind:

1. Develop the right plan for you

Know how to set clearly defined goals is a great influence on a person’s future and the greatest force that will pull you in the direction that you want to go. The future must be planned, well designed to exert a force that pulls you forward.

What plan is the right plan for you? Each of us is motivated by different factors and you’ve got to develop a plan that is right for you and fits you. Create a plan, along with goals in that plan, to move forward. Whatever your personality, your strengths and your weaknesses, develop the plan around them.

2. Explore

Explore Opportunities in the fields you are passionate about. See it as a trip to a foreign country, you can organize, but often the most interesting experiences aren’t planned. Don’t plan too tight and open up for surprises along the way. Surround yourself with interesting and inspiring people you can learn from.

3. Establish times to spend on it

It might be every Sunday night. It might be 20 minutes each morning. It might be in the car listening to Audiobooks. Whatever it is, set the times and do it. In your step-by-step plan, put down points that you can accomplish every week. They should be specific and achievable. Develop the discipline and take those steps every day, which will move you closer to your goals.

4. Keep a journal

Take notes. Don’t rely on your memory, write it down and gather the information that affects change. Make notes of ideas and inspiration that will take you from where you are to where you want to be. Put down your thoughts and ideas. Brainstorm with yourself on where you are going and what you want to do. Record your dreams and your ambitions.

5. Reflect

Create some time for reflection, reflect on the things you’ve learned and the things you’ve done each day. Take a few minutes at the end of each day and go back over the day: who you talked to, what happened and how you felt, what did you do well, what could you have done better, to ensure that you learn and you move a little closer to your goals every day.

6. Act on your plan

What separates the successful from the unsuccessful so many times is that the successful simply do it. They take action. They aren’t necessarily smarter than others; they just work the plan. The time to act is when the emotion is strong. We intend to act when the idea strikes us, when the emotion is high, but if we delay and we don’t translate that into action soon, the intention starts to diminish, diminish and a month from now it’s cold and a year from now it can’t be found.

So set up the discipline when the idea is strong, clear and powerful—that’s the time to work the plan and put it into disciplined activities. And here’s what is interesting: All disciplines affect each other; That’s why the smallest action is important. The value and benefits that you receive from that one little action will inspire you to do the next one and the next one. Take action on your plan, because if the plan is good, then the results can be excellent.

7. Give yourself time

It takes time to build a career. It takes time to make changes, to learn, grow, change, develop and act. So give yourself time to learn, time to finally achieve.

.

It is not how good you are, but how good you want to be.

And enjoy every step forward along the way!
